Godley Middle School seventh-grade leadership students brought smiles and encouragement to elementary campuses across Godley ISD on May 5 and 6, 2026, through a special outreach known as “Project Gnomies.”
Leadership students visited elementary schools to personally deliver letters and small goodies to second-grade students who had written to the “Spring Gnomies.” Much like the tradition of Santa’s elves, the Spring Gnomies are known for responding to students’ wishes and dreams with thoughtful, encouraging messages.
Under the guidance of teacher Rebecca Dooley, leadership students wrote personalized responses to each second grader, taking on the role of the gnomes. The project builds on a similar activity held before winter break, when students responded as holiday elves.
The leadership class explores a range of life and character development topics, including positive character traits, effective letter writing, budgeting, table manners and leadership qualities. “Project Gnomies” provides an opportunity for students to apply those lessons in a real-world setting while serving others.

Principal Stephanie Wynne said the experience reflects the purpose of the leadership program.
“Our leadership program helps students build confidence, responsibility, and practical skills that will serve them throughout life,” Wynne said. “Opportunities like Project Gnomies allow our students to put those skills into action while making a positive impact on younger students.”
The GMS leadership program is designed to equip students with the tools to succeed both inside and outside the classroom while fostering a culture of service, mentorship and connection across the district.
