Godley High School theater students thrilled audiences with the fall play “Oz” on October 29 and November 5, 2022, in the Godley Middle School theater room.
The play was written by Don Zolidis. According to Playscripts, “Reeling from her sister's death, Beth suddenly finds herself journeying through a world suspiciously resembling the film The Wizard of Oz. But with the yellow brick road sold to foreign investors after a financial meltdown, the Scarecrow reveling in his ignorant bliss, the Cowardly Lion acting like a paranoid sociopath, and the Tin Man embracing his emotional numbness, Beth wonders what role she plays in this classic story gone awry. A hilarious and heart-wrenching exploration of grief and perseverance on the road to acceptance.”
The October 29 cast included Oliver Allen, Isabella Antonetty, Ahla Ayesha, Chloe Brown, Georgia Carter, Chloe Coggin, Bryant Edens, Sage Klint, Lilli Martin, Jacob Shurley, Jurni Sternblitz and Katie Tucker.
For the November 5 performance, cast members were Ahla Ayesha, Chloe Brown, Georgia Carter, Chloe Coggin, Noah Knepper, Sage Klint, Vianney Martinez, Jacob Shurley, Hannah Smith, Jurni Sternblitz and Katie Tucker.
The stage play was under the direction of GHS theater teacher Christine DuBose.
Brooklyn Day was the stage manager and in charge of sound, while Jessi Merritt supervised lights.
