Godley High School students are engaging in high-level discussions using the Socratic method in advanced world history classes led by Coach James Jeanes.

Developed by the Greek philosopher Socrates, the method involves student-led discussions that help students use critical-thinking skills in order to communicate and defend positions and arguments.  The method is commonly used in law schools to prepare aspiring attorneys.

Jeanes is using the method in a series of case studies covering timeframes from early man to modern day and address debatable topics.  The cases help students learn historical content while researching and then answering specific questions, he said.

Students will be submitting analytical papers as part of their class assignments.
