Four Godley High School students qualified for regional competition at the District 12-4A UIL academic meet on March 25, 2025, at Alvarado High School.  The team placed second for sweepstakes honors at the district contest.

Students in the top three individual places qualify for the regional meet, as do all members of a first-place team.  Also competing in the academic district were Alvarado, Ferris, Hillsboro, Kennedale, Venus and Waxahachie Life.

Leading the GHS group was Reagan Brooks, the district champion in editorial and ready writing as well as second-place medalist in literary criticism.  Also advancing are Adam Pempsell (accounting and mathematics), Isabella Salmeron (news writing) and Azul Sanchez (calculator applications).

In addition to finishing as sweepstakes runner-up, Godley had the top speech team and tied for second with the journalism team.

• Current Events and Issues:  Jerry Jones, fourth; Caitlyn White, sixth
• Editorial:  Reagan Brooks, first (regional qualifier)
• Feature Writing:  Raelyn Revland, fourth; Noah Knepper, sixth
• Headline Writing:  Ava Jackson, fourth
• Literary Criticism:  Team - Reagan Brooks, Kori Iglehart and Vianney Martinez, second; Individual - Reagan Brooks, second (regional qualifier)

The academic qualifiers join six speech and debate students who previously advanced from district competition on Mar. 31:

• Lincoln-Douglas Debate:  Emma Lindamood, second (regional qualifier); Reagan Brooks, third (regional qualifier)
• Persuasive Speaking:  Kori Iglehart, first (regional qualifier); Brett Fancher, third (regional qualifier)
• Poetry Interpretation:  Ava Jackson, first (regional qualifier)
• Prose Interpretation:  Katie Ponce, first (regional qualifier), AJ Garcia-Robles, fifth

Separately, Garcia-Robles and Iglehart advanced to the final round of the UIL CX State Tournament on Mar. 21-22.  

Students will compete at the regional level on Saturday, Apr. 26 at East Texas A&M University.
