UIL Academics

Five Godley High School students qualified for regional competition at the District 10-4A UIL academic meet on April 4, 2024, at Alvarado High School.

Students in the top three individual places qualify for the regional meet, as do all members of a first-place team.  Also competing in the academic district were Alvarado, Ferris, IL Texas - Arlington Grand Prairie, IL Texas - Keller Saginaw, IL Texas - Garland, Kennedale, Venus and Waxahachie Life.

Leading the GHS group was Raegan Brooks, district champion in literary criticism.  Also advancing are Lila Heiner (accounting), Abbey Mathis (headline writing), Bryanna Morales (editorial) and Iliana Villa (current issues and events).

Students placing in district competition were: 

  • Accounting:  Team – Nola Briscoe, Lila Heiner, Tyson Melson and Austin Steward, second; Individual – Lila Heiner, second (regional qualifier)

  • Calculator Applications:  Team - Ketrevian Adams, Anson Fender, Camden Flood and Emily Holton, second; Individual - Ketrevian Adams, fifth; Camden Flood, sixth

  • Computer Science:  Camden Flood, fifth

  • Current Events and Issues:  Team – Kason Henderson, Josh Stacks, Iliana Villa, Thomas Zach, third; Individual – Iliana Villa, third (regional qualifier); Kason Henderson, fourth

  • Editorial:  Bryanna Morales, third (regional qualifier)

  • Headline Writing:  Abbey Mathis, second (regional qualifier); Catherine Whitfield, fifth

  • Literary Criticism:  Team  – Reagan Brooks, AJ Garcia, Vianney Martinez and Sutton Riley, second; Individual – Reagan Brooks, first (regional qualifier)

  • Mathematics:  Team  – Anson Fender, Jackson Harry, Austin Steward and Thomas Zach, fourth; Individual – Anson Fender, fifth (tie); Thomas Zach, fifth (tie)

  • Science:  Team – Connor Abbott, Zackary Blincoe, Emily Horton and Iliana Villa, fifth

The academic qualifiers join four speech and debate students who previously advanced from district competition on Apr. 1:

  • Informative Extemporaneous Speaking:  AJ Garcia, second; Zackary Blincoe, third

  • Lincoln-Douglas Debate:  Bryanna Morales, first

  • Persuasive Extemporaneous Speaking:  Kori Iglehart, second

Students will compete at the regional level on Saturday, Apr. 27 at Texas A&M University-Commerce.
