Godley High School students traded a Saturday morning for service on April 11, 2026, spreading out across the community for the annual Godley Serves Day — a student-led initiative focused on giving back.

Volunteers fanned out across neighborhoods, schools and community locations, tackling a variety of hands-on projects. Students cleaned flower beds, washed windows, painted fences, completed yard work and took on other tasks to assist local residents and organizations.

The effort reflects a shared commitment to service and gratitude.  “Our goal is to improve our community by coming together,” student organizers said.

The initiative was organized by GHS seniors Ryley Bentley, Aden Hernandez, Leo Mendoza and Jake Taylor, who developed and led the project as part of their English IV coursework.

Through the senior project, teacher Lawrence Matherne challenges students to apply real-world skills — including technical writing, presentations and interviews — while designing and executing a meaningful community initiative.

Godley Serves Day began in 2022, modeled after the large-scale, student-run “Big Event” at Texas A&M University. Since then, it has grown into an annual tradition that connects students with the community they serve.
