Five Goldey High School students took part in the High School Senior Welding Competition on February 25, 2023, at Tulsa Welding School.

Featuring over 300 hundred students from across ten states, the contest is for high school seniors who have completed a class in welding at a vocational school or in high school. Students must read blueprints and build a weld test project with precision fabrication, welding with multiple types of welding electrodes in multiple positions - all in one hour.

Cameron White placed fourth, while Jose Guerrero finished fifth.  Other GHS students competing were Josel Chavez, Audey Mahagan and Christian Rangle.  In all, the group won $4,000 in scholarships and prizes - including Miller welding hoods and torch set.

Competitors bring their own helmet, leathers, safety glasses, apparel and boots while TWS supplies chipping hammer, brush, tape measure, grinders and flywheels, electrode holders and soap stone. Prizes include full and partial scholarships.

Leading the group was GHS teacher Lloyd Pinkerton.
