Godley High School students built mousetrap cars in scientific research and design classes led by Adrian Gonzalez. Students tested their engineering skills during demonstrations on September 12, 2024.
“The mousetrap project teaches engineering design principles by having students plan, build, test and redesign projects,” said Gonzalez. “The goal of this project was to reach 20 meters. Students need to maximize and utilize laws of motion, energy conservation, friction and mechanical advantage among many other concepts in their project design to be successful.”
SDR is a career and technical education program at The WILD, the new four-story CTE center housing numerous programs with over 40 classrooms, learning spaces and student-led enterprises.
The SDR introductory and advanced courses are designed to present the discipline of physics in a manner of how it is practically experienced in the world and how it is used with an emphasis on technology. It focuses on realistic problem-solving mathematics and hands-on hardware laboratory experiences and is organized around four common energy systems: mechanical, fluid, electrical and thermal.
