Godley High School was in the spotlight at the Godley ISD school board meeting on March 25, 2024, at GHS.
Principal Kurtis Flood highlighted the wide-variety of activities and opportunities available to GHS students, who held a fair highlighting the various athletic, career and technical, and fine arts groups prior to the meeting.
Flood and Assistant Principal Danyel Jinkens discussed the school's implementation of the community-based accountability system, which is based upon the hopes and dreams of the Godley community and built around seven important pillars. CBAS is a locally-developed accountability system, measures benefits and effectiveness of GISD schools, highlights district successes and areas for improvement, and incorporates state testing and accountability.
Jenkins discussed several student readiness initiatives, including “Apply for Pie” for students who completed an application to a college or technical school, industry-based certifications, a career fair, college tours for students who would be the first generation to pursue a college education, as well as other programs to assist students and families with college admission and financial aid applications. GHS also hosted Tarleton Day, with 27 students accepted and others receiving scholarships of $1,000-$5,000 because of the school’s partnership with the Stephenville university.
GHS seniors Andrea Aguilar and Abbey Mathis both spoke about their personal experiences as Godley students.
The spotlight included honoring state competitors with the Texas Association of Future Educators, debate and powerlifting as well the back-to-back district champion Ladycat basketball. Flood also honored Kristie Mayes, a teacher and coach who was one of a handful of state educators earning the UIL Sponsor Excellence Award.
Flood thanked booster club volunteers and community organizations for their partnerships to help Godley students.
Featured during the meeting was the Pride of Goldey band performing the school and fight songs.
