Godley High School was in the spotlight at the Godley ISD Board of Trustees meeting on Oct. 20, 2025, held at GHS.

Principal Kurtis Flood highlighted the wide variety of academic and extracurricular activities and opportunities available to students.

Enrollment currently stands at 942 students, an increase of 69 from last school year. Historical data shows 667 students in the 2021–22 school year, with steady growth each year across grades 9–12. Coach Danny Dudgeon discussed the upcoming Snapshot Day on Oct. 31, which will determine University Interscholastic League realignment for the 2026–28 biennium.

Math teacher Lori Lummus reviewed the department’s curriculum and programs, while social studies teacher James Jeanes discussed rigorous courses offered through the Tarleton Today dual enrollment program.

Flood also spoke about the school’s implementation of the Community-Based Accountability System (CBAS), which is based on the hopes and dreams of the Godley community and built around seven key pillars. CBAS is a locally developed accountability system that measures the benefits and effectiveness of GISD schools, highlights district successes and areas for improvement, and incorporates state testing and accountability.

The principal highlighted the recent launch of the Mentors Care program, which supports at-risk students by pairing them with caring adult mentors who meet with them weekly. The impact of these relationships can be life-changing — and community involvement is key to the program’s success, Flood said.

Flood also presented survey data regarding the new student cell phone restrictions, showing strong support among high school staff members. Respondents overwhelmingly reported improved classroom learning, greater academic engagement and fewer discipline issues. The principal attributed these changes to a decrease in student failure rates.

Also discussed was LINKS Academy, which already has six graduates for the 2025–26 school year. The alternative campus serves an average of 22 students. Flood shared how the Optional Flexible School Day Program allows students time to work or care for family members while completing graduation requirements.

Flood concluded by introducing student council representatives, who help support school activities and promote a positive campus culture.
