Godley High School junior Bryanna Morales is advancing to state competition after placing second in Lincoln Dougas debate at the Region II-4A contest on April 22, 2023, at Texas A&M University-Commerce.
“This is a huge achievement,” commented GHS speech and debate coach Jeff Hughes. “Bryanna beat out students from magnet schools - even law magnet schools - in Dallas and Fort Worth.”
Lincoln Douglas debate is an oral one-on-one argumentation in which debaters attempt to convince the judge of the acceptability of their side of a proposition with a communicative style of delivery with one arguing the affirmative side of the resolution while another argues the negative side.
Students are debating the spring topic selected by the University Interscholastic League: “Resolved: Term limits for members of the United States Congress are justified.”
The UIL state speech and debate contest will be May 17-18 at the University of Texas at Austin.
