Dr. Melissa Block, currently the principal of Pleasant View Elementary School, will be the new chief of human resources for Godley ISD beginning with the 2025-26 school year. The district made the announcement on March 6, 2025.
“Melissa is an outstanding educator, and she will bring dynamic leadership as we seek to have life-changing teachers in every classroom,” commented Superintendent Dr. Rich Dear. “She has incredible experience as an instructional leader, and I know that our staff will warmly welcome her to lead this department.”
In Godley since 2019, Block previously was principal of Godley Intermediate School before moving to Pleasant View as its founding campus leader in 2022.
Growing up in Stephenville, Block earned a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies, a master's degree, and a doctorate in education all from Tarleton State University.
Block has almost 30 years experience in public education and spent 22 years working in Crowley ISD, where she was a fifth grade math and science teacher, assistant principal and principal at Bess Race Elementary School, and in administrative leadership and development.
The incoming principal succeeds Cheryl Villanueva, who is retiring as human resources chief with 30 years in public education for both Godley and Rio Vista schools. Working in Godley since 2010, she became the district’s personnel leader in 2018.
