The District Advisory Council (DAC) held a public meeting on May 13, 2026, in The Den at Godley High School. Prior to the formal meeting, math instructional materials were made available for public and committee review.

GISD Assistant Superintendent Jason Karnes opened the meeting with Points of Pride from across the district, highlighting recent student and staff accomplishments. Karnes also thanked committee members for their service throughout the school year and wished everyone a wonderful summer break.

Chief Academic Officer Dr. Nikki Nix presented information regarding High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) for mathematics, specifically the SAVVAS K-12 curriculum option. Dr. Nix reviewed the evaluation process used by the district’s instructional materials committee and shared both strengths and challenges associated with the program. Discussion included alignment with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), instructional supports for teachers, student engagement opportunities, and implementation considerations.

Chief Human Resources Officer Dr. Melissa Block and Chief Communications Officer Jeff Meador then provided an update regarding the district’s exploratory committee studying the potential implementation of a four-day instructional week.

Dr. Block reviewed the work of the exploratory committee, which focused on four primary areas of study:

  • Financial impacts
  • Academic considerations
  • Case study research from other districts
  • Stakeholder survey feedback

Committee findings to date indicate potential positive impacts on staff morale. Dr. Block noted the exploratory committee held its final scheduled meeting on May 11, 2026.

Jeff Meador reviewed survey feedback collected from parents, staff and students regarding the four-day school week exploration. DAC members were also provided access to survey result materials and presentation data.

The committee reviewed the tentative timeline moving forward:

  • August — Draft report
  • September — Presentation to DAC
  • September — Update to the Board
  • October — Presentation to the Board
  • November — Possible Board action

With no further business, Karnes adjourned the meeting at 4:44 p.m.
