Congratulations to GISD 2nd and 3rd grade math teachers who completed the summer Mathematics Achievement Academy at the Education Service Center Region 11! The math Academy will help GISD focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Science) curriculum, which encourages students to be problem solvers, innovators, inventors, and logical thinkers. In addition, the "Critical C's" of Collaboration, Communication, Creativity, Critical thinking, and Character are emphasized through project-based learning, usually through interdisciplinary (across subjects) activities. Project-based learning will integrate the subject matters in an inquiry-based, hands-on curriculum that more closely aligns with what students will experience in college and the workforce. GISD is proud of the following teachers that took advantage of this opportunity: Michelle Bell, Natalie Bicknell, Stephanie Davis, Maggie Frazier, Mistie Havlak, Courtney Hewett, Paula Griffin and Jeremy Praytor. These teachers gained valuable knowledge over the course of the academy that will facilitate student learning at far greater depth and breadth, thereby increasing engagement, retention, comprehension and academic achievement
Thank you teachers!
