Character & Leadership Development

The Texas Education Agency requires all school districts adopt and implement a curriculum to address the components of Character Education and/or Social Emotional Learning. Social Emotional Learning is the process we all go through in order to acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to:

  • understand and manage our emotions,
  • set and achieve personal and collective goals,
  • feel and show empathy for others,
  • establish and maintain positive, supportive relationships, and
  • make responsible and caring decisions.

Although TEA has only recently made this a requirement, Character and Leadership Education is not a new concept within Godley ISD. In 2011, Godley ISD developed a community driven Strategic Design plan that valued character education with a focus on the social and emotional well-being of all students, and the district has been including character education in our daily instruction ever since.

TEA has approved a handful of character education and social and emotional learning curriculum providers. All lessons are carefully reviewed and selected to specifically reflect our community values. We only choose character education lessons that align with our community based strategic design and translate into the 21st century skills our learners will need for their future.. We are happy to share any and all information about the topics being presented however;  due to copyright laws, detailed lessons can only be made available for review in person on campus. To ensure we are available and have set aside the appropriate grade level lessons we ask you to make an appointment with your campus administrator to preview materials. We are also planning a curriculum night to share the resources we are currently using and to gather productive feedback from parents. More information regarding this event will be shared once details are finalized.
