Welcome to Mrs. Beck's 6th grade language arts and reading website!
In language arts class, you will be reading, writing, and learning many things about texts of all genres. One thing that's very important for both language arts and life is reading, so reading is your homework every single day. Research supports the idea that the more you read, the better you become at reading.
Because I'm interested in your growth as a reader, you are required to read at least 20 pages per day in a novel of your choice that's in your reading level. I will be tracking your reading to be sure you're meeting your requirement and reading whole books.

I grew up in Pensacola, a city in Northwest Florida. After I graduated from the University of West Florida in 1992, I taught 7th grade language arts in Macon, Georgia, for seven years. I moved back home to Pensacola for four years, where I taught 8th grade intensive reading, and for nine years, I taught 6th grade language arts and reading in Burleson ISD. In May of 2013, I completed my master's degree in curriculum and instruction with a literacy focus at UTA, graduating at the same time I completed my 20th year of teaching. This year, I am beginning my 4th year at Godley Intermediate School, teaching 6th grade, and my 24th year of teaching.
Mr. Beck and I live on our very small farm in Godley with our children, dogs, chickens, and cat. I love reading, singing, gardening, and spending time with my family, and I feel very blessed to be teaching in my community.
