- District no longer under contract with Coke-A-Cola.
- No carbonated beverages will be sold in Public Schools/American Beverage Association
- Slammers could be an option, looking into idea. They are made with high heat for a long shelf life.
- No more than 12 ounces to be sold in machines. Current machines will be changed out
- Teachers’ lounges will stay same
- Laura’s Law – TDA rep said law passed that will allow “birthday parties” at school with whatever the parents want to bring. Cannot be served during lunch or in cafeteria. Can be served at teacher’s discretion, not parent’s
- Calendar has to show when school parties are – if State comes in at a different time and unscheduled party is being held, we are liable
- Our district is still severe needs district. We have 1479 students – over ½ are Free and reduced. Still a lot of those students haven’t applied yet.
- We are working towards every child receiving breakfast.
- Intermediate and Elementary are serving same menus
- Toni O’Dowd asked to get rid of the sugarcoated cereal, still serving cinnamon rolls and donuts.
- Kids can have juice AND milk, dry cereal EVERYDAY & hot meal. Should be fruit with donuts on Fridays at Elem.
- 2nd grade, only, will be offered a choice on menu
- Intermediate has same menu – choice of sides but not choice of meat.
- CATCH Program for schools – decided would do TEAM NUTRITION for 2006-2007 because it is free
- AIM FOR SUCCESS is also price, therefore; TEAM NUTRITION for 06/07.
- Will ask Intermediate PE to weigh and measure kids at beginning of school. PE teacher does this at Elementary.
- Some Intermediate teachers do this in class. (Jan Whitehead is one). Will ask Jaye if she does this.
*Question asked if SHAC would supply growth charts
*Question asked if all PE teachers at all levels (at least K-8) participate with students during PE or sit and watch.
*Question asked when kids are asked to wear deodorant. 5th grade does this during “The Talk” in the Spring. Asked if we could address it in earlier grades as a topic – not a directive.
- Elementary PE wants bigger gym. Classes are large right now. Some students have to sit against the wall while games are played.
- Bars need to be OFF of ALL doors at the schools. DO NOT have to unlock doors, just remove the red lock bar.
- The budget for 2006-2007 was reviewed. The board approved for SHAC to spend $3000.
- Reviewed bullets from last meeting to see what had been covered.
- Will look into scheduling meeting with Mr. Smithson to discuss AIM – Keri and Lori went to AIM presentation. They will meet with Mr. Smithson.
- Elementary moved their times to accommodate cafeteria being open at 7:30 a.m. Instead of students being tardy at 8:10 or 8:15, they are now tardy at 8:00.
- Each campus is serving breakfast until tardy bells ring.
- Cafeteria doors ARE staying open for late kids
- Candy sales are still taking place at Elementary; they are considering Kit Kat and Twix as cookies.
- The snacks at elementary have gotten better (see list on 1st page)
