SHAC Meeting Minutes
March 29, 2006
Members present were:
Keri Owen, Godley Middle School Nurse
Stephanie Hodges, City of Godley Administrator
Penny Chesshir, Godley Food Services
Jan Whitehead, Godley Intermediate Teacher
Jackie-Jo Cunningham, Godley Intermediate Counselor
Karen Moore, Godley Middle School Counselor
Minutes of the last meeting were read and revised. Keri Owen presented the Student Health Advisory Council (SHAC) plan. It was patterned after White Settlement I.S.D. Keri talked personally to a White Settlement representative. She also looked at the Cancer Society guidelines for info on membership to the SHAC board. We will change it from K - 12 to read Pre-K - 12 grades. After discussion and research, it was decided to change "Student" Health Advisory "Committee" to School Health Advisory Council. We will ask a school board member to become part of the SHAC and include two parents, Delaina Angeledes and Vicki Bryant. We also made changes in the "Purpose, Meetings, Part B referring to officers It will be called Godley ISD School Health Advisory Council. Our elected officers will be:

Team Nutrition has not contacted Penny as of this date. She is still waiting for their information to present to the SHAC committee.
Keri sent for a price proposal for Aim For Success. The price will include the training of 1 parent program, 1 staff development, 3 student assemblies and 800 travel brochures. We will also have to pay for travel expenses. The amount came to approximately $1281.00.
The teachers will receive 1.5 Continuing Education Units for Staff Development. Manuals at four dollars each are not included in the final total. Godley I.S.D. has approximately 200 faculty and staff, an extra $800.00 will be added to the $1281.00 for a budget request.
Youth Equipped to Succeed (YES) is a free program for schools. YES will come and do a presentation to the Board to help explain what SHAC is and the purpose of SHAC. This is a service we will be looking in to use in the future.
Stephanie Hodges will look into the group Just Say Yes. This company does advertisements for AIM and she will be checking out what help they can provide.
The School Board meeting will be April 24, 2006 at 6:30 p.m. Jan and Penny will present the proposed budget request of $2500.00 for SHAC to the board that night.
Next meeting will be on May 11, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. We will look at goals and review what the school board said about the budget and plan. We will possibly be able to look at Penny's TEAM Nutrition materials, if the budget is approved, we will look at purchasing materials.
