May 22, 2007

Members present were:

Keri Owen, Godley Middle School Nurse

Lori Riggan, High School Nurse

Julie Schroeder, Parent

• Minutes from the April 30, 2007 meeting were read. Lori Riggan motioned to approve the minutes and Julie Schroeder gave a second to the motion.
• Keri Owen, JJ Cunningham, Jan Whitehead, Vicki Bryant, and Cody Bryant, current 8th grader went to the William James Middle School for the 6th grade presentation. The consensus of the group was positive. Cody stated the presentation gave him more information than he already knew. The 6th grade students were comfortable with a male presenter and did well together.  It was a small group of no more than 30 students, male and female. Cody will be coming to the board meeting on June 11 to answer any questions from a student’s perspective on the Aim For Success program.
• Keri Owen has called several schools to get info on past surveys. The schools have been slow in responding. Crowley High school did make a suggestion to not have too large of groups. Discipline is difficult to manage in large groups.
• We now feel it would be better to have 6th graders by themselves, 7th and 8th, 9th and 10th, and 11th and 12th together. Males and females should be presented together.
• Lori has counted 26 females and males that have either been pregnant or fathers in the last 3 years at the High School.
• The power point was reviewed; revision will be made before the board meeting, statistic handouts will also be available for anyone interested.
• The next board meeting will be June 11, 2007. SHAC will have the power point ready, a statistics hand out for the board and will be attended by as many members as possible.
• If the board approves Aim For Success for the 2007-2008 school year, our goal is to get it set up before homecoming 2007. 9/28/2007 is the Homecoming date. Coach Stevens will get Keri an Athletic calendar so we can decide on the dates.
• Next SHAC meeting will be 9:00, Tuesday, June 12 at the Intermediate.  CANCELLED
