SHAC Meeting Minutes

April 30, 2007

Minutes from last meeting reviewed and noted on district link
Keri and Lori met with Mr. Smithson about Aim For Success (AFS)
Keri, Lori and JJ met with Administrators with power point on AFS
Mr. Smithson requested statistics as to whether or not rates have fallen with AFS
Individual Schools keep survey results, not AFS, except on two Texas counties for birthrates.
Board Meeting is 6/11/07, Keri requested attendance of SHAC members
Question if AFS can provide statistics, Keri will call other districts to try to get survey results
Lori will call Cleburne and Burleson’s Pregnancy Centers for state, county and national rates.
Keri wants to go to another presentation with other SHAC members for review
Would like to have other people come to meeting to share opinions about AFS
AFS usually has an “opt out” slip, we will have an “opt in” permission slip
If approved we would like to have AFS before Homecoming 2007
Want to have grades divided 6&7th, 8&9th, 10,11,and 12th
AFS suggests having boys and girls together, SHAC agrees.
Jan Whitehead will call Martha Harmon to get numbers.
AFS survey discussed
AFS presentation given at William James M.S. today. SHAC members and one student attending.
Discussed snacks at elem. still the same.
Penny discussed that GISD had a good nutritional state review
The High School received the “Gold Award”
End of year pilot program for free breakfast for all students at the elementary.
Lunches not filling up students, they are given state required measurements.
Not enough for MS students, students then buy from snack line.
