Godley FFA competed in the Area VIII CDE contest on April 9th at Tarleton State University. Out of the 7 teams Godley had, two teams advanced to state competition. The teams advancing to state include the Floriculture team, which placed 4th at area; and the Horse Evaluation team that placed 7th in area. Godley also had students place individually as well. Angie Cerna, member of the Floriculture team was 3rd out of 116 participants. Tylo Bader, member of the Horse Evaluation team was 3rd out of 187 participants. The Godley softball team clinched the District Championship last Friday beating Grandview 8-3. The Lady Cats are 9-0 in district play going into tonight's final game against Maypearl that begins at 6:00pm.
1st grader, Bree Hubbard took home 3rd place, and kindergartner, Sadey Hughey took home 2nd place in the annual Johnson County Soil and Water Conservation District #541 43rd Annual Coloring Contest. Congratulations girls!
The Spring 2014 season started off great for the Godley High School Varsity tennis team and it is still going strong. At the district meet in Glen Rose, Texas the varsity claimed 1st and 2nd in girls doubles, 1st and 2nd in boys singles, and 1st in boys doubles, mixed doubles placed 3rd. for a total of 5 regional qualifier spots. Both boys and girls varsity won the tournament overall. At the JV tournament the boys and girls both were the champions of the district. In the end Godley came home with 4 district champion plaques and 8 kids going to regionals at Tarleton State University. (Click on headline for slide show)
January teacher of the month is Tanner Trask, a very busy math teacher. He teaches algebra II, honors algebra II, AQR, precalculus, honors precalculus, and calculus. In addition, he sponsors the Strategy Club and prepares students for UIL mathematics. "Awesome" is the description his students used when nominating him. (Click headline for a picture)
